Valentine's Day Concert: Miramar with Bolero Dance Lesson

Come celebrate love and dance on Valentine’s Day at Flushing Town Hall with Miramar! Perfect for couples, friends, or solo jazz lovers, this concert will let you create lasting memories with someone special! Enjoy bolero, the slow, melodic celebration of love through music and dance which originated in Cuba.

Our evening starts with bolero dance lessons with instructor Jacqueline Babek. We’ll be led into the music of Latin bolero with Miramar, who reimagine the genre with bolero beat, blending nostalgic ballads with psychedelic rock, bossa nova, funk, jazz, and more.

Miramar’s magic lies in the chemistry between vocalist-songwriter Rei Álvarez and the “gran voz de la diva,” Laura Ann Singh. With “heartbreaking vocals [that] suck in every nerve” (Lira), they “harmonize with such precision and grace that it’s hard to imagine a day when they didn’t sing together” (Style Weekly). The Álvarez–Singh duo is supported by a lush, dreamlike soundscape arranged by bandleader Marlysse Simmons-Argandoña, who alternates between piano and combo organs. As a full band, Miramar also includes Gary Kalar on electric guitar, Giustino Riccio on percussion, Dan Martinez on bass and occasional collaborates with string quartets and symphony orchestras.
